Happy Anniversary! and some Plugin Love
Apr|4|2007
Thank you to Johann over at Shapeshift for letting me know this: the 5th of April is my blog’s 1 year anniversary.
In celebration I’ve decided to switch over to this site, Unodewaal.com. I’ve made the move! Now I just need to up the posts again. I feel a bit kak because the past few posts have mainly been Del.icio.us links without any substance. I promise I’ll keep it up again. But that doesn’t really mean anything!
For those not in the loop, you can subscribe to my new feed through Feedburner. It’s got Motard power and goes PPAAARPPAAAPPPAAAPPP!!
Some of the new nifty features (or, plugins rather) that the site has:
- For me, it’s using Google Analytics for all my stats needs.
- Google Analyticator adds all necessary Java Script to the page that makes Google Analytics run. It saves a lot of time! And now also if I’m playing around with some templates then I can easily add the javascript without going through the whole rigmaroll of adding the javascript to the header etc. Great stuff.
- The feed is powered by Feedburner, and all the links to the RSS are mapped to it as well (url rewrites), which means less HTML for me. I used Feedburner Feed Replacement for this.
- Wordpress Reports gives me some small stats in my blog, so I don’t need to open Analytics or FeedBurner. I haven’t gotten the Analytics one to work, but the FeedBurner one is great!
- There is a Another Flickr Plugin (there really are friggin thousands of these out there! Stefan has found a pretty cool one). Although I haven’t used Flickr in ages seeing as my kak new phone (Sony Ericcso M600i) doesn’t have a camera. Why oh why did I pick this one? I thought I did a bloody degree in decision making… I want my money back…
- Subscribe Remind adds a small reminder of the bottom saying: Hey you punk! subscribe to this feed! It’s my way to remind people to subscribe :
- The Last.fm plugin, Run for Cover is also great, it shows the top albums of the past week, instead of the latest songs. Which somehow works better for me…?
- Comment Relish allows me to send you a personal message if you’ve commented on my blog for the first time. Hopefully that will up my feedreader count.
- I’m using Gregarious as my social bookmarking plugin. I’m not entirely sold on the idea though… If I want to bookmark something in del.icio.us I’ll use the bookmark I’ve setup in my favourites. It just works better for me. How do you bookmark posts? I’ll still take away the Digg button, maybe… Except if you Digg this post
- Then there is Live Comment Preview, a tool that let’s you preview your comment before posting (I think).
- Subscribe to Comments allows readers to check a box and get updates on posts you’ve commented on. This is super useful for me! It allows me to keep up to date with what I’ve said. Sometimes I’ll comment and only later check that there were about 12 new comments after my comments. Talk about missing the conversation!
- This is something I really like: Top Commenters Widget. It adds a little widget that shows the commenters that have made the most comments, thereby encouraging more comments. Maybe I’ll add a competition at some stage…
- Related Posts is pretty straight forward, it shows what posts are related to this one through some active/passive keyword searches. I’m still playing around it though, so it isn’t working 100% as it should be.
Then, I’m waiting to enable the Adsense Deluxe plugin. I don’t know why I’m waiting… I’m still playing with the idea of monetizing my blog. I know I should in someway, I just need to get over exactly why. I also have a survey and discussion board plugin waiting to happen. But for what I ask you?
The site has been submitted to all the awesome new African and South African blog aggregators (I’ll still do a post on these), look at the Amatomu and Afrigator badges at the bottom.
That’s it in a nutshell. It’s a bit of a slap-dash put together. I haven’t had some time to research other plugins properly, or play around with any of the navigation and the sidebars will probably still change a hell of a lot. What do you prefer? One, two, three or four panes?
The other thing to do now is get a new design. This template is by Lorelei Web Design and is called Darklight Wordpress Theme. I’m still going to change the header soon, but I’m looking for a total redesign of the template. Any offers? I could pay
And I’ve done my research now hear, you can find what I’m expecting to pay over here.
Oh, and another thing. You might have noticed that my previous blog didn’t have blogroll. I’m working on it this time around, so I’ll be adding y’all soon enough.

04|Apr|2007Awe Uno. Well done on the move - hoop die blog groei hier.
On another note - hoe lyk dit met ‘n link exchange?
Cheerio, Adii

04|Apr|2007Ek link hom onetime.
Spif.

05|Apr|2007Ahoy,
Happy b(log)day. Ek like die nuwe setup. Net nie super mail oor die font size en die grey op grey nie. Maak die effe moeilik om te lees.
Awesome dude.
Ek sal hierdie page nou bookmark!

06|Apr|2007[…] just noticed that Uno has moved his blog from WordPress.com to a swish new blog with a very urban theme (would have been much cooler if the cityscape was Cape Town or Joburg […]

06|Apr|2007Very swish. There seems to be something buggy in your sidebar though.

06|Apr|2007Hey Paul,
what do you mean something buggy? It’s looking OK to me except that there are some ugly parts

07|Apr|2007Hi Uno
There was a piece of code sticking out when I looked last. If I remember correctly it was some related to Flickr but then again, I could be mistaken.
