Disa Park towers beautification

Imagine.. if only we could change this:

into this:

The residences of Ramenskoye (southeast of Moscow) are painted with giant, colorful murals that run the whole height and breadth of these enormous, brutalist apartment blocks. Link (via Neatorama)

Mashup: Video surveilance

Picture%201ab.jpg

Over at SmartMobs Howard Rheingold mentioned a class that:

My undergraduate class on new media and community put together a Google map that contains all the video cameras that they could identify that point into public spaces within University City (Philadelphia). The map includes a pin point on each camera, a photograph of the camera, and where appropriate comments. When viewing the map, be patient while it loads, they identified over 500 cameras and the map takes a couple minutes to load.

Surveillance cameraWhich of course makes perfect sense. For a while I had a project going to map out all the surveilance cameras in Stellenbosch, unfortunately it died down when I got out of street-art. Something like this as a plug-in or “extra” on a street-art site would of course be a brilliant addition. That way you can know if you are being watched. And then not do art.

Threadless T-shirts in Sea Point?

E2 Fashion sells shirts with the same design as Threadless. I just bought 4! Well, the have some of the same designs and other completely different ones.
I asked the girl on how it works that they have the same designs and apparently it is the designers at the company that they buy from that flog their designs on Threadless, which means that they (E2) are legit. And the best part? The shirts only cost R126!!
Threadless shirts are on average $10 on sale, otherwise $15, and that excludes the shipping and hassle of getting them here. And you pay import duties.

I remember my first order from Threadless of about R700 never arrived. It got lost in postage, so I am very keen on the E2 Fashion thing (pronounced E Squared).
You can find them in Regent Road in Sea Point, that’s next to the @Home, before New York Bagel (Link to Google Maps page, it’s the space just after the Kloof and Regent split). They also have a Wordpress blog that you can check out here.
They’re planning on introducing online shopping next year in January.

It would be great if they could some how incorporate the Web2.0 aspect that makes Threadless that successful. Get user commenting going, gallery and that sort of thing.

Awesome stuff!

RESfest review - Thursday

For some strange reason that I can’t remember I didn’t make the By Design on the Thursday. Oh wait, it was because of having to move a friggin ton of furniture…
And also I wasn’t that keen on seeing it. If memory served me correctly, By Design was a showreel of artists work, and I’m not here to have product sold to me. So I missed that one, but I arrived right before the next screening, Shorts 2 and quickly found out that lugging around a ton of furniture was a better option than sitting through 2 hours of mindless, boring loops.

        50c a ball afterwards (that’s quite cheap!)

Leave a comment for me to get back to you.

RESfest Cape Town Thoughts

Yesterday saw the opening of RESfest Cape Town 2006. The venue is the quaint Labia theatre which has been the stalwart for independant film since before I can remember. Previously RESfest was held at the CTICC, which meant that there were about 3000 seats to fill which in some cases meant that the sound of crickets were louder than the the rustle of programs and popcorn. The move to the smaller, more intimate Labia is definately a move that I’ll recommend coming RESfests to keep with.
